Hello everyone! ^_^ This is Mira from The Far Rings team!
I’m one of the artists and writer/editors, and I also help with other odds and ends, being the unofficial contact for our SFX guy Morton and our voice actors Reece, Rochelle, and Robyn. Since I’m also responsible for social media and promoting the game, I’m excited to share an in-depth look at the making of our free Visual Novel The Far Rings from start to finish!

It feels a little funny to go on at length about every little detail, but I think this will also be a great experience for me to review how we got here. Just the other day, a bunch of us met up together at our local Frederick Game Dev monthly meet-up (thank you Cowork Frederick for hosting us!); we had a conversation about how one of the best ways to learn something really well is to try to teach it to someone else, because you don’t even realize what you do or don’t know until you try saying it out loud :D .

So, I hope that any of you reading this, as well as I, might have fun and learn something on this journey!
Thank you for joining us!
This will be a series of blog posts, and they will be shared at least twice a week! Actually, it will be more like a bunch of mini-series focusing on different topics related to the game dev process. These will include:

Behind the Backgrounds: How the environment illustrations were made, from conceptualization to game-ready assets.

Creating the Characters: From personality and backstory, to appearance and illustrations, to how we created and coded expressions for use in RenPy.

Setting the Soundscape: Hear the process, struggles, and thinking behind the all-original music, sound effects, and voice-overs.

Getting Game Development: Sharing odds and ends of the process, from coding tips with RenPy to sharing stories of what we learned by all working for the first time as part of a team.
To stay updated on any new devblog post, please SUBSCRIBE to our mailing list! You’ll also hear ASAP when the game is released this way! ^_^
We are always happy to hear comments, questions, and feedback on anything! It would be fun if this could be a little interactive for readers too, so I’ll be asking in a Twitter poll to hear which topic people would like to hear about first! :D .
Thank you so much for your interest and reading to the end,
The Far Rings Team
